Some scammers pretend to be popular online shopping websites, government officials or credit card companies phishing for your personal information and access to your money. For example, you get a message claiming to be from Amazon or maybe your credit card company. The communication states your credit card has been charged a large amount of money for an order. Then they give you a support phone number or link and tell you to immediately respond or call if you didn’t make that purchase. If a communication seems suspicious, play it safe. Do not respond, click links in the message, or call the number they provide you. If you are not sure if the message is legitimate, call the company the message claims to be from with the phone number you have on file. If you do not have the number on file, do an Internet search for the entity the message is saying they are from and find the legitimate number on the website’s “Contact” page.
